Ferries

Puget Sound residents living on or visiting the area's many islands consider their government-operated ferry system an extension of their "roads" for commuting to and from the mainland.

Tourists and island residents alike use passenger-only ferries or regular vessels to explore local islands, the San Juan Islands, the Olympic Peninsula, destinations in Canada, and more.

Most ferries run year-round, but schedules frequently change on holidays and during the busier summer months. Experienced ferry travelers get in line early before their preferred departures during peak travel times. If you have a choice of ferry routes, check ferry Web cameras.
